Scottish Bakers Chief Executive Announced

Scottish Bakers Association along with our training arm National Food and Drink Training are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Chief Executive Officer Mr. Alasdair Smith who will be starting with us on Monday 8th January 2018.

Alasdair comes with experience in skills and education, lifelong learning and the media sector. He was Scotland Director of Creative Skillset (the sector skills council). Before then, he spent 9 years with SQA & SCOTVEC and brings a wealth of experience in bringing industry together in partnership with further and higher education institutions in Scotland as well as having established links with SQA, SDS, the Scottish Funding Council and Scottish Government. Alasdair also has achieved his Masters in Business Administration at Strathclyde Graduate Business School along with Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration at University of Strathclyde.

Scottish Bakers was established in 1891 and represents & promotes interests of the bakery trade in Scotland. We aim to be an integral part of each member’s business operation providing a range of specialist support services for Bakeries of all sizes. We provide a valuable source of advice, information, assistance and skills and training development for bakers and other food and drink sectors throughout Scotland and the United Kingdom.

Most importantly Scottish Bakers belongs to its members, and we are there for their benefit and are proud of our motto “For the Good of All.” Our vision & mission is to be recognised by the Scottish Bakery Trade as a world class Trade Association supporting our members to effectively and efficiently meet the needs of their customers and to be recognised by all stakeholders as the authoritative voice of the bakery trade in Scotland.

We have successfully established the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards as well as Scottish Baker of the Year Awards both making positive impacts to our members and beyond.

Our Board of Directors look forward to working closely with Alasdair in helping him to continue building our association along with all our current activities, we sincerely wish Alasdair every success in his position as our new CEO.
