The Scottish Salmon Company’s new brand, Lochlander Salmon, set to make a big splash across the pond

The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) is set to make a big splash in the North American seafood market by introducing a new premium export brand at this year’s Seafood Expo North America (SENA) in Boston from 11-13 March.

Lochlander Salmon has been developed exclusively by SSC for premium restaurateurs, up-market hotels and top class chefs in the USA. It is initially being introduced to the North American market where demand for quality, traceability and Scottish provenance continues to grow. The brand focuses on Scottish ‘Sea Loch’ Provenance, sustainable farming and excellence in animal care.  SSC recently announced that is it the first salmon producer in Scotland to be awarded Best Aquaculture Practice (BAP) certification for all its marine sites.        

Lochlander Salmon is based on extensive research.  SSC commissioned Ipsos Mori to conduct one-to-one interviews with leading chefs in New York City who confirmed that quality, freshness and authenticity of food supply were of paramount importance.  The research highlighted that chefs wanted to know more about how their food is farmed, to be proud of the food they serve and to have a brand name which communicated Scottish quality.  

The Lochlander Salmon launch comes after recent statistics show 2017 as a record year for salmon exports which grew by 35% last year to £600 million. The USA remains the largest market with sales worth £193m, followed by France (£188m) and China (£69m).

Since 2011, SSC’s exports have more than doubled and currently accounts for over half of sales.  With a clear focus on developing a platform for sustainable business growth, driving exports is a core priority for the Company who has developed a strategy underpinned by Scottish Provenance.
